Four people were found injured at Phoenix Skyharbor Airport after a family dispute that violently escalated on Wednesday night.
Four Found Injured at PHX
At approximately 9:41 p.m. MST, officers responded to a report of gunshots at PHX airport. When they arrived on the scene, they found three people with gunshot wounds.
Officers later found a juvenile female and a man in the parking garage. According to CNN, the man had at least one stab wound. One woman with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The others were taken in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
Police detained the man and juvenile in the parking garage. No charges have been filed.
According to AZ Family, an initial investigation uncovered that the altercation was likely caused by a family dispute, which led to one man firing a handgun. All weapons were recovered by police.
Police emphasized that all members involved knew each other, and that no additional suspects were being investigated. It is unknown if the family intended on traveling that day, or if the dispute somehow made its way to the airport.
"All five involved in this incident are known to each other. No community members or visitors were hurt outside of this group of individuals. They did not go through TSA yet. I do not recommend bringing guns to an airport," said a police spokesperson.
Man Arrives at T4 With Firearm
In response to the incident, the TSA security checkpoint at Terminal 4 was temporarily closed.
However, shortly after operations resumed, a man was arrested in Terminal 4. Police reported that a man who received text messages about a potential active shooter situation arrived at PHX with firearms. The man was detained after an altercation with police in a separate incident.
Police said that there are now no active threats at Phoenix Skyharbor airports. Operations have resumed as normal.
