Passengers interested in American football or visiting Barcelona are in for good news. American Airlines is adding flights to two major events in February and March. These high-demand events are Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas and a mobile communications trade show in Barcelona.
Jason Reisinger, American Airlines' Managing Director of Global Network Planning, said the following about the new flights:
"Whether you're looking to get the latest on all that's happening with mobile communications or celebrating your team playing in the championship game, we know nothing beats seeing it live. With more than 6,000 additional seats in and out of Las Vegas and Barcelona, we're adding more convenient ways to connect fans and enthusiasts to experience all the action."
Super Bowl LVIII
American Airlines will add more flights and seats to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII. This season's NFL championship game is scheduled at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise on Sunday, February 11. Allegiant Stadium is home to the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders. The stadium opened in 2020 at $1.9 billion and is the world's second-most expensive stadium after SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Allegiant Stadium was built to accommodate the Raiders moving from Oakland to Las Vegas.
Passengers interested in attending the Super Bowl can fly to Las Vegas on American from February 8 to 11. The airline will also offer return flights for fans on February 12. Two routes will use the carrier's Airbus A321T aircraft, with 10 lie-flat seats in first class and 20 in business class. American will offer these amenities on flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and select flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Passengers can enjoy an enhanced preflight experience depending on their itinerary. First-class customers can access the Chelsea Lounge at New York-JFK, featuring a champagne bar with a la care dining. Business class passengers will receive access to the Greenwich Lounge, offering chef-inspired meals and premium wines.
Other routes will use the airline's Boeing 787 aircraft. American will operate one daily flight from Miami International Airport (MIA) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) on February 8, 9, and 12. The first two flights are for inbound travel, while the third daily service is for outbound travel. American plans to offer more than 150 lie-flat seats on peak days flights to and from Las Vegas.
Aside from the airports mentioned above, American Airlines will also offer nonstop flights from the following destinations from February 8 to 11:
- Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
- Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
- Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Barcelona Trade Show
American Airlines will add more flights to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) for a mobile communications trade show. The GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade fair will occur in Barcelona from February 26 to 29. American Airlines offers nonstop year-round flights to Barcelona from Miami, New York-JFK, and Philadelphia. The carrier also has seasonal flights from Chicago-O'Hare.
American will add more seats on the routes from MIA and JFK. Even though the DFW route will officially launch on June 5, the carrier will operate a special service exclusively for this event. Finally, the airline will have daily flights from PHL. These routes will run from February 22 to March 3, with the DFW service launching one day later.
American will use the Boeing 787-9 from DFW, the Boeing 777-200 from MIA, and the Boeing 777-300 from JFK.
Sports and Tech Tourism in 2024
The first three months of 2024 should be exciting for passengers interested in sports or the tech industry. Introducing additional flights for major events should give customers fewer excuses not to attend. Las Vegas and Barcelona are popular travel destinations for passengers with other interests. These cities are known for their entertainment and historical attractions, respectively.
All the airports mentioned above are hubs for American Airlines, with the carrier also having a significant presence at AUS. Although LAS is not a hub airport, it still receives high passenger traffic due to Las Vegas being a major tourist destination. These flight announcements add to the 60 special events worldwide that American has offered flights to this year.
