American Airlines has announced three new international routes from its largest hub: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The airline will now serve destinations in Australia, Brazil, and Mexico that are especially popular during peak travel periods. The new nonstop routes will connect passengers in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex to Brisbane (BNE), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and Veracruz (VER). American will also reinstate a previously existing service between DFW and Kona, Hawaii (KOA).

Brisbane

American Airlines will launch its first route connecting the U.S. to Brisbane on October 27. The service will operate seasonally using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 51 seats in Flagship Suite and 32 in Premium Economy. The route will be American's first between DFW and Australia, with partner airline Qantas offering nonstop flights to Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL). Passengers in the DFW metroplex can now visit Queensland without connecting through another airport.

American Airlines and Qantas entered a joint business relationship in 2019, covering flights between North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The partnership will offer direct flights from four North American cities next winter: Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), and Vancouver (YVR). Aside from the previously mentioned Australian cities, the partnership will include flights to Auckland (AKL) in New Zealand. The American-Qantas partnership will allow passengers to connect to over 200 U.S. destinations and 70 destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

These are the nonstop routes currently offered by the two carriers between Australia, New Zealand, and North America:

• American Airlines from Los Angeles: Auckland and Sydney
• American Airlines from Dallas/Fort Worth: Auckland and Brisbane
• Qantas from Brisbane: Los Angeles
• Qantas from Melbourne: Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles
• Qantas from Sydney: Los Angeles, New York-JFK, San Francisco, and Vancouver

Rio de Janeiro

American Airlines will launch a seasonal service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Rio de Janeiro on October 27. Rio de Janeiro will be American's second Brazilian destination with direct flights from DFW after São Paulo (GRU). The carrier will operate the route up to four times daily using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. Passengers in the DFW metroplex previously had to connect through Miami (MIA), New York-JFK, or São Paulo to visit Rio de Janeiro on American Airlines. 

Veracruz, Mexico

American will launch a new daily service connecting Dallas/Fort Worth to Veracruz (VER) on June 12. The airline will offer flights daily using its Embraer E175 planes that can accommodate up to 103 passengers across three cabin classes. DFW will be the second U.S. destination with nonstop flights to Veracruz after a United Airlines route from Houston-Intercontinental (IAH). All flights will be operated by American's regional subsidiary, American Eagle. 

Kona, Hawaii

American plans to reinstate nonstop flights between Dallas/Fort Worth and Kona (KOA) in Hawaii on October 27. Flights will operate up to five times daily using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes. The route will exist alongside the airline's existing routes connecting DFW to Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG). Passengers can now visit three Hawaiian islands directly from DFW: Maui, O'ahu, and the Island of Hawai'i.

Other Changes in American's Winter Schedule

American Airlines will also make the following changes to its network in the winter season:

• One more daily flight between DFW and OGG from December 19, 2024 to January 6, 2025
• Expanded daily seasonal flights between New York-JFK and Rio de Janeiro starting on October 27
• Resumption of seasonal service between Los Angeles and Auckland on December 5

The Dallas/Fort Worth-Kona and Los Angeles-Auckland routes will use Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners, respectively. Meanwhile, American's route connecting New York-JFK to Rio de Janeiro will use a Boeing 777-200. 

Changes in American's Summer Schedule

American Airlines will add more flights from DFW to destinations across the Caribbean starting June 8. The carrier will expand service to two flights on Saturday to Grand Cayman (GCM), Providenciales (PLS), and St. Thomas (STT). The first two routes will use Boeing 737 aircraft, while the third will use Airbus A319 planes. Passengers in the DFW metroplex will have many opportunities to visit Mexico and the Caribbean this summer, with the airline planning to provide over 55 peak-day flights to Mexico alone.
