Delta has expanded its options for passengers interested in escaping the cold and enjoying the warm, sunny weather of Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline has announced a boosted schedule to Latin American and Caribbean cities, adding three new destinations from its Atlanta (ATL), Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP), and New York (JFK) hubs.

Expanded Network

Delta's expanded network to Latin America and the Caribbean will see the launch of five new routes on November 23 or December 21. All routes will utilize the Boeing 737-800, an aircraft type that Delta has recently begun retrofitting with new seats throughout.

On November 23, Delta will launch the following routes, all running daily:

  • Atlanta to Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI)
  • Atlanta to Willemstad, Curaçao (CUR)
  • Atlanta to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP)

JFK-BGI will run on Saturdays only, while MSP-MZT will run thrice weekly, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Previously, CUR-ATL was served on Saturdays only but is now increasing to daily service.

Delta's Senior Vice President of Network Planning, Joe Esposito, said the following about the new routes:

As mentioned earlier, Delta will deploy its Boeing 737-800s on these new routes. Delta is gradually retrofitting these aircraft with new interiors, including the new First Class seats that debuted on its new Airbus A321neo jets. Behind First Class, Comfort+ and Main Cabin will also receive a refresh. Upgraded, 10-inch Panasonic seatback screens will be installed in the new seats, replacing the ancient Panasonic eFX screens many of the 737-800s had.

Delta Studio, the inflight entertainment system, offers more than 1,000 hours of free entertainment. The 737-800 refresh will also see upgraded lavatories with touchless features. On the outside, Delta is also adding split scimitar winglets to the 737-800, which it has already done with its 737-900ER fleet. The scimitar winglets improve efficiency, saving nearly 3.3 million gallons of fuel annually.
