Delta Follows Other Airlines in Move to Daxing Airport

In September 2019, Beijing opened its new Beijing Daxing International Airport. This airport had to be constructed due to the high number of flights there are at Beijing's Capital International AIrport. So, this cause some of the airlines that serve Beijing to either add a service to the new airport or move over to the new airport. The plan is that Oneworld and Skyteam airlines move over to Daxing while the Star Alliance carriers stay at Capital.

Because of this, we will see Delta is the first US airline to move operations from Beijing-Capital to Beijing-Daxing on March 29, 2020. They will be flying to the new airport from two of their hubs- Detroit (using the Airbus A350) and Seattle (using the Boeing 767). The schedule goes as follows:

SEA-PKX departing 15:29 and arriving 18:15 (+1 day)

PKX-SEA departing 11:45 and arriving 08:29

DTW-PKX departing 12:50 and arriving 14:00 (+1 day)

PKX-DTW departing 17:15 and arriving 18:50

The airline's president for Chinese flights, Wong Hong, said, "The brand new Daxing International Airport will provide us a great opportunity to better serve the growing needs of our customers in China. As Delta operates in the new mega airport, working with China Eastern side by side, customers will enjoy the improved departure and arrival times, seamless connection, more convenient baggage delivery, and faster security check, customs and boarding/arrival procedures."

Delta joins many other airlines in moving over to Beijing Daxing Airport. When the airport opened, China United Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern where the first to move into Daxing. One month later, British Airways moved flights to Daxing, and Finnair added a thrice weekly service from Helsinki to Daxing, which complements the Finnish airline's daily service to Capital.

Next month, we will see Malaysia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Air Macau, and Royal Air Maroc start flying to the new airport. Delta along with S7 and Ural will follow in March, and Aeroflot in June. Soon enough, we could also expect American to make this move as well.

I think that Daxing Airport is a very massive airport that I should visit later on. I will expect Oneworld and Skyteam airlines to move over to Daxing and Star Alliance to stay at Capital.

But, I would love to hear from you. Do you think Beijing building Daxing is a good idea? When do you expect American to make this move? Write your thoughts in the comments below!
