New York-based seaplane airline Tailwind Air has announced that the airline will increase its seaplane services on the airline's New York (NYS) to Boston Harbor (BNH) route, allowing passengers to "Fly the Fast Lane" even more than before. The increase in services comes amid an overwhelming increase in demand for seaplane flights between two of the  Eastern Seaboard's primary major cities. 

Beginning September 12, 2023, Tailwind Air will operate three daily flights Monday through Friday. The new flights will depart the airline's New York Skyport Seaplane Base (NYS) at 08:00, 09:15, and 16:15, bound for the airline's seaplane base at Boston Fan Pier Marina (BNH). 

Departures towards New York from the Boston Fan Pier Marina (BNH) base will occur at 07:45, 14:45, and 16:40 during weekdays. Service remains the same on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), with one daily flight between the two iconic U.S. cities. 

Why Take a Seaplane Between New York and Boston?

Tailwind Air's business model primarily revolves around business people looking to save time when flying between New York and Boston as well as other cities on the North Eastern Coast of the United States. This is why the airline's primary seaplane bases in New York City and Boston are just minutes from the financial districts of the two cities. 

According to Tailwind Air, flying on its seaplane services only takes 1 hour and 45 minutes between New York's Midtown and Boston Financial Districts. This is compared to taking Amtrak's Acela high-speed train between NYC and Boston, which takes an average of 4-and-a-half hours, or flying on a commercial airliner, which takes an average of 3-and-a-half hours. 

Tailwind Air not only takes pride in saving time for business travelers but also in the experience the airline provides in the air and on the ground. 

Unlike flying commercially through an airport, which typically requires business travelers to arrive around 90 minutes prior to departure, Tailwind Air advises that passengers arrive just 30 minutes before their flight. 

A passenger's journey begins upon arrival at Tailwind Air's "SkyPort" terminal at 23rd Street and FDR Drive in Manhattan. After checking in and dropping off any bags, passengers are treated to a private lounge before boarding a Tailwind Air Cessna 208 seaplane and taking off for Boston.

Ticket prices on the airline's New York City/Manhattan to Boston/Boston Harbor route begin at $395. The higher cost (compared to commercial jet travel on the same route) is due to the time-saving, convenient nature of the airline's services, as well as the travel experience offered on the ground.

The seaplane airline was founded in 2012 by a U.S. military veteran. 

The airline focuses on "...amphibious seaplane operations...", with the goal of "...delivering time saving travel solutions..." to its passengers. 

The carrier does this by utilizing waterways and smaller airports close to urban centers as landing strips for its seaplanes, whose undercarriages can be converted from floats to landing gear.
