Amazon is Offering $25 Flights for Students This Week

BY ADAM SCHUPAK 12/03/2023 AGO 0 COMMENTS

As the American college semester is nearing its end, as many as 20% of students may have to travel to see their families for the holidays due to studying out of state. Unlike other parts of the world like Europe, traveling even short distances via air is typically not affordable. This holiday season, Amazon Prime plans to change this, as the company is partnering with travel service Student Universe to help American college students save big.

Flights As Low as $25

Between December 5 and 7, 2023, American college students who use Amazon Prime Student can book one-way or round-trip domestic flight tickets for prices as low as $25 through the flight booking website Student Universe. During the three-day promotional period, 1,000 plane tickets (round-trip and one-way) will be available daily.

The time the discounted tickets become available to purchase differs each day as follows (all times are Pacific Standard Time):

  • December 5: 6:00 a.m.
  • December 6: 12:00 a.m.
  • December 7: 12:00 a.m.

A total of 3,000 airplane tickets will be available to be purchased during the promotional period.

Students who snatch a discounted plane ticket can fly anywhere in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska). This promotion has a $500 maximum value, meaning that if someone purchases a $25 ticket using this promotion, and the actual value of the plane ticket is higher than $500, then the student will have to pay the price difference above $500.

College students wishing to utilize this promotion must make their outbound travel between December 8 and 25, 2023. Inbound travel (if a return ticket is purchased) must be made by January 14, 2024. After the $25 tickets run out, Prime Student members will be offered a $25 discount on flight tickets on Student Universe.

How Else Can Students Save This Holiday Season?

Mileage Programs and Credit Cards

College students who live near major hub airports for one of the big three U.S. airlines (United, American, Delta) could become members of that airline's respective mileage program. Through airline mileage programs, college students can save on flights by earning miles when they fly on an airline they are a miles member of. They can also apply for student credit cards that earn them points, which they can convert into miles or use for rewards at the airline they are a member of.

Flight Search Aggregators and Websites

Flight "aggregators" are a great way for budget-conscious college students to save money on flights, as search aggregators such as Google Flights offer calendars that display the days on which it is cheapest to fly while also allowing students to compare fare prices between certain dates. Google Flights can also notify those with a Gmail account of price increases or drops on itineraries and airfares a person is watching.

Regardless of the time of year, the best way to save money on flights is to book between three and seven months before the day of travel, irrespective of the destination.
