Today, WestJet announced plans to increase service this winter between Vancouver (YVR) and a plethora of Mexican vacations destinations: Cancun (CUN), Los Cabos (SJD), Ixtapa (ZIH), Puerto Vallarta (PVR), Mazatlán (MZT), and Huatulco (HUX). Three of these destinations — Ixtapa, Mazatlán, and Huatulco — are new. The other three will see increased service.
"We are thrilled to bring more opportunities for our guests across B.C.'s Lower Mainland, to seamlessly connect to their favorite destinations across Mexico this winter," mentioned WestJet Vice-President Chris Avery.
The airline notes that this new winter schedule will see a 14% increase in capacity from Vancouver to Mexico, more than any other airline in Vancouver. Additionally, the airline is launching flights from nearby Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Puerto Vallarta and San José del Cabo, adding to the overall total of Mexican destinations served from Greater Vancouver by WestJet.

This follows WestJet's previous announcement in July revealing their bolstered winter schedule to international beach destinations from numerous Canadian airports featuring new routes such as Edmonton (YEG) – Montego Bay (MBJ), Toronto (YYZ) – Bonaire (BON), and Winnipeg (YWG) – Huatulco. This move is all part of WestJet's growth strategy to provide more affordable leisure and sun travel opportunities.
Prior to the Vancouver announcement, the airline posted that they will have 85 daily departures on average to "sun" destinations from Canadian airports this winter, the most by any Canadian airline.
